@Mtmomkbh , hopefully you will hear soon! Belmont is gorgeous! I think we were lucky to hear so quickly, probably because it was in November and they didn’t have as many people auditioning at that time.
I really don’t know this world but I do have a friend whose daughter went there & – 4 years later – she’s on the cusp of a very big moment in music (and works a great day job as a songwriter at the top label)…so it worked out amazing for her.
@Mtmomkbh-My D’s friend’s dad called Belmont the other day. Both girls auditioned 1/14, and were also looking forward to a response in 2-3 weeks. Whomever he spoke to said that they’ve seen so much talent this year that they’ve decided to make decisions after auditions are over.
@owensfolks thank you! It seems like the MT’s from last year all heard about the same time which was the end of February, beginning of March
I earned my MBA at Belmont – Music Business concentration – so while I don’t have direct experience with their undergraduate performance programs, I can tell you a few bits of general info (some of which you may already know…):
- There's a lot of talent at Belmont and in Nashville generally. That presents predictable pros and cons... but I think if you are into music, Nashville is the place to be, much like LA or NYC are for actors. The pros outweigh the cons.
- Vandy is literally a few short blocks away so while Belmont itself is small, there is a sizable student population in that area of Nashville.
- Belmont's campus lies along one boundary of Music Row (on Blakemore/Wedgewood Street) -- agents, producers, managers and recording studios are literally right there. There's no better location for a budding talent.
- Nashville isn't called Music City USA for nothing: aside from Music Row and the Grand Ole Opry, there are outstanding venues large (Ryman, TPAC, etc.) and small (Wildhorse, Bluebird, Tootsie's, countless others...).
- Nashville is also known as the Athens of the South. Aside from the educational connotation, there is also an exact replica of the Parthenon located in Centennial Park (located on West End, a long walk or 2-minute drive from Belmont).
Belmont is a wonderful school and their MT program is top notch. I live in Nashville and shared this post about Belmont a few months ago: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/20068360/#Comment_20068360
I get the feeling that Belmont’s MT program is on the verge of becoming one of the more sought after programs in the next few years. If you go to the Belmont on Broadway page you can see lists of students working on and off Broadway as well as national tours. They don’t have that page completely updated though because the guy that just got Jefferson in Hamilton is not listed on the page yet.
Well @NicMusic I completely agree. However I was hoping my D got in before everyone else caught on…lol We are anxiously waiting to hear from 1/14 audition.
My daughter auditioned late January for MT. They said we should hear back by or around March 1st.
Just an FYI, in case there are folks on here who auditioned for MT and the Theatre BFA (as a back up), we saw a Theatre and Dance show on Sunday evening there and it was really fantastic. The play had singing and dancing in it (only theatre kids, not MT) and they were amazing. Belmont is definitely a great program all the way around, be it MT or Theatre and Dance department. PS: The set, lighting, and sound was wonderful too!
We got a call from Belmont last week (as we anxiously await to hear if she got in the BFA) but it was a call from a student wanting to see if we have any questions about the school:)
Same, @Kentmtmom!!
Saturday, November 12, 2016 (Spring 2017 applicants must audition on this date or submit a video by this day)

There is one more audition day in March but it is not for MT applicants, Hoping we will all hear soon!
@Kentmtmom I believe my D said that the portal states 3/1 is the day that they will notify. Good luck!
I just wanted to say that I had such an enjoyable audition experience at Belmont! It was my first one, and I really felt like the faculty made effort to make us feel more comfortable. First off, I loved that they had a meeting just for MT kids (it was audition day for all music majors) and talked about the program, and each auditor and student introduced themselves. Then, the most unique thing that I loved was how they allowed us to rehearse with the accompanist who would be playing in our audition. And overall, I felt so welcome on campus, and every faculty member and student that I spoke to was so friendly and patient! Did other people have similarly enjoyable audition experiences at Belmont?
yes, @jessieburnett it was one of the best. Samford University allowed for a warm up with the pianist as well. Probably my D’s top MT school. She auditioned at 10 schools~
Its about time Belmont got some love!
Son and I went there on Preview day in October. Its in his top 3 choice right now. Beautiful. Reasonably priced. Great city. Very talented kids.
On the Christian issue… If a kid NEEDS to drink, smoke and have sex in their dorm room - scratch Belmont off his list.
@JerseyParents , it’s a great school and wonderful MT program. We have a good friend who will be there this Fall! Those preview days are awesome!!!
Belmont is top notch; in every way. I suspect that they may soon need to go to a prescreen, as word is catching on that this a dream campus/program/town.
Anyone have success with getting in via video? I submitted a video audition recently and I’m waiting to hear back.
