Belmont University

Anyone have any thoughts on Belmont for MT? They seem to have a great program. Located in the heart of nashville.
A lot of different options are offered including drama, commercial music, MT, music business . They don't have a big name like some if the others but I think it's up and coming

I have a former student who is there for theatre and really seems to like it. I’ve met some of their faculty and have enjoyed talking with them. As far as commercial music goes they are considered one of the best. I’ve heard a lot of buzz about them for MT lately. I think they are another up and coming program that is definitely worth checking out. Apparently last year their students had some of the best auditions for professional theatre companies at the Southeastern Theater Conference.

We did not apply to the program so I have no firsthand knowledge but I have seen both ends of the spectrum. We have a former student from here who went to Belmont who is currently in Motown the Musical on Broadway. But we also know 3 kids in the last 3 years, all very talented, who left the program during or after freshman year. If I can find out why I will post more. On paper it looks great to me but this trend of kids leaving made our D not want to even consider it. On the flip side - Our D has a Couple of friends in commercial music who love Belmont.

If you can find out why they left that would be great. On paper it seems like a great school with so many
Opportunities in the entertainment industry. After NY and LA and maybe Chicago , Nashville has to be one of the best places to learn the business

Spent the weekend at Belmont with D . She loves the school and the MT program seems top notch. I think it is an up and coming program. They offer many options. Acting, vocal performance , commercial music and music business to name a few . It has definitely moved up on her list and she has received offers from some of the better known programs. Any feedback from anyone knowing anything about Belmont would be much appreciated.

D has a friend a couple of years older than she is (she may be a Junior?) who is at Belmont and absolutely loves it. She is very talented and transferred there from another school. Not a great deal of information, but I know she is really happy and feels like she is learning a lot.

Yes - I can unequivocally say that Belmont has some of the strongest students in the country. Once again they were the strongest university (with Florida State and ACU, perhaps) at SETC.

That being said, talent is incredibly subjective. I tend to focus very much on vocal talent, and I appreciate a unique voice, with diverse strengths - and I am sucker for a power belt (which you won’t find any school better at teaching).

I offered contracts this summer to a handful of Belmont students, and am thrilled to be working with a few.

Also - we have discussed internally not attending SETC and just holding auditions at Belmont, Elon, and Coastal Carolina.
