I'm a huge proponent of GAP years. Here's a short article on a side benefit re: college admissions: Abigail Falik: A Win-Win for Students and Colleges in the Admissions Arms Race

Par-thanks for the link. As I get ready to leave for the airport to pickup bs d from her first trip home from bs, I have been thinking about summer programs. This afternoon I started researching. Most of the big schools have summer programs some even summer abroad for high school students though their colleges.

My d attended SIG-summer institute for the gifted at vassar for 3 summer before bs. It really let us know that bs was a possible option for her. I am now looking for a different type of program for her upcoming summers. My d is interested in Asia. She studies, Japanese and Chinese and wants very much to be “immersed” in the language and cultural.

Any one know of a student(s) personally spending time in the east? which program?
