Are there any schools that offer great deals (full rides, etc.) for National Achievement

Plenty. Someone posted a link to schools that offer great scholarships to National Merit scholars. Most of those schools do the same for National Achievement Scholars. Also if you use a search engine for "National Achievement Scholarships," you can find a lot of colleges that offer great deals. These include places like University of Florida and American University, but there are many, many others.

What exactly (or approximately) is the weight of National Achievement in the admission process

There is no way to answer your question about its weight. Yes, it's a factor, but there's no way to measure that factor.
Frankly, there is such a very small group of black students with high scores, grades, and a demanding curriculum that the top colleges literally fight over attracting such students. It doesn't mean that National Achievement will automatically get you into HPYS. However, it does mean that places like that are trying to attract students like you.

Meanwhile, take the normal care with your essay, recommendations, etc. and make sure your senior year grades remain high. National Achievement can help with admission, but it's not a guarantee.

What about National Achievement Commended students--do they get any scholarships?

I am not aware of any scholarships that automatically go to students who are National Achievement commended. However, I would be that such students get extra consideration for merit aid from colleges that are interested in diversifying. After all, National Achievement commended students, too, are among the very small group of black students with scores high enough to indicate they could be successful at top 50 universities.

what about just "Commended"?

Uninformed one here....just what IS National Achievement?

National Achievement is like the National Merit for African-Americans only. Like National Merit, those who score above the 99% compared, to other African-Americans, become finalists and those who score in the top 5% are commended.

is there any data on numbers or acceptance rates of National Achievement Semi/finalists at the top tier universities?

FAMU....full ride plus books and laptop http://www.famu.edu

Howard Univ...full ride http://www.howard.edu

plenty more....

type "National Achievement scholarship" in Google search....

I made National Achievement but not merit. What is the minimum for National Merit Commended. I was in the top 98%. Why didnt I at least get commended?

National Merit commended usually has a cutoff of an index score of 200 or 201.

i know i got a 210. I just dont understand the why i wasnt commended. i am so sad...

"know i got a 210. I just dont understand the why i wasnt commended. i am so sad."

Maybe you come from a state which requires an extremely high score for National Merit Semi-finalist, and consequently, commended also requires a higher than normal average for your state. I suggest that you call National merit and ask them.

or maybe you forgot to indicate that you would like to compete in the national merit competition. like northstarmom said, call national merit and find out what happened. Because a 210 is quite high.

I am a National Achievement Semifinalist and when I was filling out the paperwork earlier this school year my SAT I score was 1310 (680M, 630V), but I have since retaken the SATs and went up 100 points (720M, 690V). Do I have to send my new score to scholarship corporation or will they get it from my school?

I think that it would be advisable to send your scores directly to Naitonal Achievement just to be on the safe side.
