Any advice on deciding between Holy Cross and Bentley? If my son chooses HC he would go in as an Econ major whereas Bentley is obviously more business oriented (which is what he ultimately is interested in). Factors he is considering would be overall prestige of school and job prospects after graduation. Our financial aid packages are somewhat similar although going to bentley would cost about 10K more per year. Thanks for any advice!
No specific recommendation on Holy Cross vs. Bentley. Nevertheless, if your son is interested in studying business, i.e. finance, accounting, marketing or other, he should be attending a strong undergraduate business school, not a LAC which would take immediate additional time & money through MBA graduate studies.
Thank u. Those are good things to consider
Any advice on choosing Bentley vs universities like UCI? I got 35k at Bentley so my total cost would be 25k, while UCI would be about 30k, so cost is about the same. Can anyone tell me how the student life is like at bentley, is there a lot of stuff to do/is there a healthy party scene? and as for recognition and prestige, I know Bentley is much more known in the northeast region (when I tell people here in California about it, they’ve never heard of it before) so would Bentley be well known nationally if I wanted to work on the west coast? If anyone who has gone there before could give some advice that’d be great!!
@ddeebaa Bentley is my sons top choice and we have done a lot of research and read tons of student reviews. Students are busy with class and studies during the week but do party over weekend. There is Greek life so there are parties and if I remember correctly there is a bar on campus for those 21 and older. Also Boston is an awesome college town. They have a shuttle bus that takes students to Cambridge and then it’s easy to get into Boston. Plenty of bars, other colleges, concerts, sports events, museums etc. I do know bentleys internships and career placement is great in Boston and even NY.
@ddeebaa What are your stats? 35k at Bentley is a lot! I myself was offered only 15k a year in merit scholarships.
@Heisenberg1700 I have like a 4.1 GPA and 33 ACT, I got the 25k founder’s scholarship and then also the 10k women’s leadership scholarship so altogether it’s 35k. I’m just having a hard time deciding if the money saved is justified since Bentley isn’t that well known (at least where I live)
@jcd716 thank you for that info!
@ddeebaa What major are you interested in pursuing? Bentley is very well known towards the east coast and offers amazing internships and job opportunities in the area.
@ddeebaa do you want to leave California? That is the key question. New England is pretty different than Cali and far from home. If you want to go to college in NE, then Bentley is a great choice for a smaller school atmosphere near Boston. Did you visit?
Did anyone attend accepted students day yesterday? If so, what did you think?
We did @suzyQ7. Very impressed with this school. The trading room is impressive everytime I see it. The new arena is gorgoeous. They had all the majors represented and they gave sheets with examples of internships and jobs those majors have done. I believe their internship and career placement is the best I’ve seen so far. We spoke to a lot of students and all the seniors had jobs already set up after graduation. More than one student emphasized that you have to love all things business related and love group projects. This is going to be a hard decision for my son.
@jcd716 What other options is your son considering?
@Heisenberg1700 Fairfield University and a distant third is Loyola Univ Maryland.
@jcd716 I honestly feel that Bentley is better than both Fairfield and Loyola, but that’s just my personal opinion. I chose Bentley over BU, UW Madison, and OSU. In the end, it’s not about ranking or prestige but about being the right fit for you. I really like the campus feel and small class sizes and Bentley.
@Heisenberg1700 I agree with you. We were both very impressed with Bentley but it may be too business focused for my son. He just switched to a business major from engineering so it is all new and he may want the more academic diversity that Fairfield offers. I would not be surprised if he chooses Bentley but I feel he will do well at either school. Good luck to you!
Did they talk about the admission rates for this year? They don’t include their common data set on their website and the info they do show does not include admit rates.
@suzyQ7 actually I do not remember them mentioning any numbers.
@suzyQ7 The acceptance rate this year was close to 35%, Average SAT and ACT were 1350 and 29. Spoke to an admissions officer at an event.
Has anyone heard back from Bentley in regards to the waitlist? Still waiting to hear…
