I’d like to start a thread discussing information on Berkeley.
Here are a few of my questions:
Anyone go to Cal Day and like to share what they learned? I unfortunately couldn’t attend.
Are any of you planning to take summer courses? If so, how many?
Anyone going for a double major, simultaneous degree, or a L&S major change?
I heard Berkeley has super competitive professional clubs. Can anyone confirm? Is it worth applying to as a junior?
What’s your plan for housing?
How many of y’all are waiting for Stanford?
I’m actually super happy that I got in. I am a one year transfer (I created an earlier thread for us) and got rejected from Berkeley last year, making the acceptance this year quite surprising. I hope we all will do well at Berkeley when we transfer, both academically and mentally.
I know I applied to cal and got in, but there is no way in hell im going, it’s just to much unnecessary work. I’m good going to Chico state and breezing through college.
I applied to Stanford too, but honestly idc anymore. I’m going to the haas school of business and not worrying about anything else. I think I’m gonna do the PreCore program over the summer, but idk if I should knock out more breadth courses at my CCC this summer instead. I’m gonna meet with a transfer counselor and discuss it with them.
@Trashception any idea how i can meet with a transfer counselor or talk to one if I dont live in the area?
Is anyone going to Transfer Day on May 4? I’m coming from SoCal and I’m planning to stay until Monday so I can sit in on some of the classes but I dont know where I would have to stay! Hotels and airbnbs in the area seem very expensive!
@whostolemycookie what is your budget? I see Airbnb bedroom rentals in Hayward, San Leandro, Richmond, etc. for as low as $40 a night walkable to the BART station.
@ProfessorPlum168 I will definitely expand my search! I was looking at places around campus and they were all $70+/night and I would be staying 3-4 nights. I wasn’t familiar with the BART system! Would I be able to get to campus with it?
@whostolemycookie The downtown berkeley BART station is right next to campus (about 2 blocks down)! You would be able to get straight there from the station, but the campus is quite big so you might have to walk a bit within campus to get where you need to
I am looking at off-campus apartments. I’m also going on a tour this weekend and to the May 4th transfer day thing, anybody else? And is there a FB page for admitted transfers?
@whostolemycookie I would look at staying somewhere by a BART station like Hayward, San Leandro, and the 2 El Cerrito stations. Coliseum area is ok, though there are parts that are not so nice. You probably can find decent prices for AirBnb or something similar around there. Fremont and Daly City might be a bit too far for you.
