Berkeley Concern!! PLEASE HELP!

I applied to UC Berkeley about a month ago, but I think I reported my school grades wrong.

On our report cards, we either get a 4.0, 3.5, 3.0, 2.5 etc... for each class. However, our grading system works so that if you get in the 95-100% range in a class, you get a 4.0, and if you get a 90-94% range in a class, you get a 3.5, and if you get a 85-89% range in a class, you get a 3.0 etc..

But on the UC application, the 4.0 scale was not an option to use as a way to report grades, so I used the 0-100% system instead, so I just reported what % grade I received in each of my classes during high school. And then in the end, I explained what I said above ^.

But I just recently heard that you have to report your grades EXACTLY as they show on your report card, or else the UC schools will rescind your application after you get admitted. Is that true? And if it is, WHAT DO I DO?????? I reported percents instead of GPA marks! PLEASE HELP

anyone???

???

I don’t think you have anything to worry about. You responded in the best way possible. And you’ll be able to support what you reported.

But my school doesn’t show what % grade I got, they only have the gpa number for each class so how can I support or prove that I got that grade now?

How do you know if the school doesn’t know?

The school has an online system where % grades as well as the equivalent GPA grade in each class are reported, but it also has a transcript where ONLY the GPA mark is reported, and not the percent, and then they end up deleting all of the yearly grades from the online system so only the GPA marks are left as records, so those are used I guess, but the UC system only allowed for letters and percents to be reported :(

Should I contact the office of admissions and explain this problem? Has nobody else run into a similar situation?

If you explained it in the comments, I don’t think they’d throw out your app. You did the best you could given the options. You put a note on the app about it. It’s not like you’re trying to game the system or lie about your grades.

I doubt you’ll manage to find other students on here with the same issue… but it sounds like you’re panicking and I know from first hand experience that being rescinded sucks, so you might as well call them to make sure you’re okay and put yourself at ease.

Lol I think I’ll call just to be sure.

UCDreamer12,

The issue here is that your school uses a non-traditional grading system, where there are “half grades” assigned, instead of purely a 4.0, 3.0, 2.0 etc. There are many other schools that use other forms of grading that are also non-traditional. When applications are evaluated, all of them are probably judged on the exact same GPA or grading system, or else the application process would unfairly give applicants advantages based on their school rather than academic ability.

@Jweinst1 I am sure that that is true also but that is not my concern. My concern is that they’ll rescind my acceptance since I didn’t report EXACTLY the way my transcript looks

It sounds like you didn’t have an option to report your grades exactly the way they look on your transcript so you did the closest you could. And you explained what you did. I think that sounds very reasonable and they will understand that you tried to report it as accurately as possible.
