Berkeley Edition Books

I hate them. They are suitable for use inside class, but outside class I can't imagine using them. They are poor references because they are paperback and they exclude parts that aren't covered in the corresponding class. That they are unique to UC Berkeley also annoys me because it makes finding solutions online trickier. They end up being only marginally cheaper than the regular editions because you can usually find regular editions for sale online at deep discounts but only a few stores near campus sell the Berkeley edition so for them you must pay the sticker price. When you factor in the quality of the binding, the completeness of the text and the ease of finding solutions it's a raw deal.

Will I have to buy more of these goddamn books or are they used only for lower division classes which everyone takes?

lower div physics/math uses them, but they stop once you finish them.
