Berkeley: Mechanical Engineering = Death?

<p>I am either going to Cal or I am going to the University of Maryland. Is Berkeley really as hard as people claim on this website? I recently visited the campus and the general feeling was that as long as you are smart at picking your classes, you can still have a social life. That is a really importaint aspect that I know Maryland will have; however, Berkeley has so much more to offer me. With Ocean Beach a 30min BART ride away and trips to Tahoe and Santa Cruz on weekends, my surfing and skiing hobbies have so much more potential at Cal. However, the question that is bothering me is whether I will actually have time to do these things. </p>

<p>Generally, I NEVER procrastinate. I get things done ASAP so that I have time to do the things I want, worry-free. So please, help me out. The decision is killing me, regardless of the difference in cost, which one is the best for me?</p>

<p>If you are not a procrastinator, then you should be able to handle Berkeley course work. Just don’t load up all of your lab / term project courses all in one semester.</p>

<p>Oh, and BART is not right on the beach. If you take BART, you’ll have to transfer to some other bus or light rail to get to the surfable waves.</p>
