I just wanted to know, for those of you who have submitted your STATEMENT OF LEGAL RESIDENCE (SLR), if you have heard back from them and have they classified you as a resident already?

And how long did it take for them to complete?

I just submitted my SLR yesterday and am anxiously waiting since I am in a unique situation. I am an older (29) transfer student awaiting approval of my green card (permanent residence), since my wife is a US Citizen (we've been married 7 years and our case is still pending - long long story).

Anyway I was told by the UC, that as long as I have a permanent resident case officially pending (which I do) and the immigration has given me a work authorization (which they have, for several years now), I am eligible for CA resident tuition, of course, provided I meet the other usual requirements - which I am really not worried about at all (I have lived ONLY in California for the 9 years I have been in the US, paid CA taxes, worked in CA, have registered automobiles in CA, Bank accounts in CA, etc. etc. etc. ).

I submitted mine yesterday for UCSD too and they said about 9 to 10 days. It’s probably the same for Berkley and my case is just like yours!! Except I am not married… Lol

Yeah I submitted mine a couple of days after I SIR’d (second week of May) – no response. And it was really short too… Are they actually supposed to notify you of anything?

OH LOL. This is true! I just assumed I’d be okay since I was born in CA and lived here my whole life - parents have been citizens for at least 10-15 years now, so I don’t really have any complications to prove my residency. But it seemed so easy since it took me literally 5 minutes…

According to the FAQs:

What happens after I complete my SLR?
The Residence Affairs Unit will review your SLR. You may be contacted if additional documentation is needed. After your residency status has been determined, you should be able to view your residency status via Bear Facts, usually within a few weeks after you submit the SLR.

@redoplease, did you check your status on bearfacts? I don’t think they actually notify you.

If you go on bearfacts and click on the “SLR” tab you should be able to tell if they have classified you as a resident. When you intially apply it will say “pending” (at least that is what mine says)

@dezziner, in your case it is most likely just a formality. In my case I am 100% sure I qualify in terms of all the other stuff (living in CA etc.). It is only the “immigration” aspect of it that I"m worried about.

Even though, by law I am eligible (since I am officially in the process of obtaining my permanent residency) if some clerk who is unfamiliar with all the complexities does not know how to interpret the situation, they may reject it on a “kneejerk” response

cici19 did they qualify you as a resident?? or did they ask you for any additional documents?? …I’m dying to know since we are in the same boat.

…redoplease I think it is only Berkeley that takes forever for the SLR.
