Berkeley VS. Cornell EECS MEng

Hi All,

My boyfriend is accepted into the EECS MEng program at both Berkeley and Cornell. The Berkeley program is a 8 month, project based program, while Cornell is a 8-1.5 year program with the possibility of publishing a paper with a professor.

Because of the high reputation of Berkeley EECS, my boy friend is attracted to the Berkeley's program. His concentration is electronic IC design. But the fact that Berkeley's program is only 8 month and does not have research plus I have decided to go to Cornell for my own grad study is giving him a hard time to decide.

Both of us had done research before in Berkeley, and we think it is a pretty nice place. However, we have never been to Cornell before.
He is interested in maybe doing a start up or go to a dynamic firm. Not sure yet. Since Berkeley is in Bay Area, I can imagine start up is more encouraged there. We are not sure about the atmosphere in Cornell and where students go after graduation and if start-ups are among the interests of the students.

It will be great if you could provide some comments on where he should go for his study!

Given the specialization inherent in graduate study, he should consider the types of research projects and course work available at each school to check how they match his interests.
