Berkeley vs. University of Toronto for Premed

Hey, so I recently got an admission offer from both Berkeley and Toronto and I have no idea where I should go. Both are amazing schools and have great reputations. Could someone please say why I should go to either Berkeley or Toronto with valid reasons why. Could you please support your choice with reasons that pertain to academics, opportunities, quality of education, reputation, location, quality of life, etc? Thank you in advance! :)

They are both large public universities with good reputations. The measurements frequently used to compare US universities are not readily available for the University of Toronto, since it does not publish a Common Data Set document. Toronto is not ranked by US News. The US News site has an entry for Toronto, but without much supporting detail about class sizes, selectivity, graduation rates, etc. Other major undergraduate rankings (Forbes, Kiplingers, stateuniversity.com, Washington Monthly) do not cover the University of Toronto.

Try posting in the CC University of Toronto forum.

I would pick UCB. UToronto has terrible grade deflation and that spells murder for premeds.

What some call "grade defaltion’ at UToronto is due to the fact that UToronto is very easy to get into for a top school. There is a high flunk out rate. If you are a cross admit to Berkeley you will likely be a top student at UToronto.

Thank you all for your input! :)

I’d say quality of life is better in CA than in Toronto…It might be more expensive.

You need a school that don’t do grade deflation to go into premed in the US.

@artloversplus‌ As an international student, I have heard that Berkeley does do grade deflation :/

Not sure about that. A S of a friend got 3.8 and he is in Case Western Med school now.

Both Are Great Schools. Where’d you rather live? I live in the bay area and my oldest sister went to UCB for a major in Poli. Sci. so I’m qualified to answer ur questions. ;). It has a lot of what some might consider “hippies” lol and it also has a pretty surprising homeless rate. She’s now a grad. student at UNC-Chapel Hill and got into Darmouth and Cornell for grad school. She’s also a gates millieunium scholar.Sorry if i sound all braggy :|.

Besides, Canadians are less of an international in US schools.
