I was in the bookstore the other day and saw that Bowdoin was rated a 60* for selectivity and I think a 72 for academics in the new Princeton review. What happened here? Did Bowdoin fail to send in their data? What does this mean??? Something is obviously wrong here. Thanks for any information

That's just completely bogus. I've always felt that the Princeton Review has ignored Bowdoin and has always rated Middlebury much higher than Bowdoin when, actually, they're very similar. Bowdoin is definitely one of the top 15-20 schools in the US. Do you remember where Bates and Colby were ranked?

Okay. I am looking at the princeton review website and it appears that Bowdoin did not submit it's admission data...That explains a lot..

The 2005 edition had rated Bowdoin a 98 in selectivity and a 97 academics so I was quite shocked with the change. The 2004 edition had selectivity rated a 97 and academics a 94. I am going to check out the review again when I am in the book store. Maybe because they didn't send their data in?

It clearly says in the book's preface:

Please note that if a school has an Admissions Selectivity Rating of 60*, it means that the school did not report to us enough of the statistics that go into the rating in order for us to accurately measure its admissions selectivity.

I'll bet that Bowdoin gets the proper info to PR well before the deadline next year...

Same thing happened to Wesleyan

Thanks, that's what i was looking for. I didn't have very much time in the bookstore to look for what the asterik meant. I wonder why they rated them a 72 or something like that in academics? I didn't see an asterik next to that rating but I was really rushed so I have to look again. I agree that Bowdoin will have to be on time in the future with their submissions. Not good PR! FYI in Princeton 2006 Best Northern Colleges which came out earlier this year, Bowdoin received a 94 in academics and a 98 in selectivity!
