Hey, I am taking AP bio this year and the teacher sucks. Also I did not take any form of bio since elementary school (junior high had a mix of bio and chem). As a result, I do not really have a strong background in bio.

I don't plan on getting a 5, I really just want to get an A in the class and maybe a 3 on the test since this is my senior year, and AP bio is the only science class I have not taken.

I see that cliffs seems to be highly recommended here, is it good for bio beginners also or does it require some good background knowledge of bio? My teacher says 5 Steps to a 5 is good, what do you guys feel about it?

Also, doesn't have to be exactly a prep book, it could be a good, small and relatively cheap textbook. Thanks.

Is it worth to get a AP bio book right away or wait for the 2011 ones to come out since I heard Collegeboard is changing the way they score MP questions. Will that mean they add new content or make harder questions?

hey, I have a 2008 Princeton Review edition that I’m looking to sell. I really need to get rid of my lots of prep books I have as I’m a college student now. PM me if you’re interested.

I thought Barron’s was very good and I got a 5 with it. I relied somewhat heavily on the book because I didn’t pay much attention in class. Campbell is a good resource to have around too - look for a used copy.

Cliffs AP Bio did wonders for me. I reviewed the whole thing and did the practice tests and I got a 5. I had a 96 in the class though, and the subject really appealed to me. If you like bio and you’re willing to do the research, you can get a 5. I found that the cliffs book reviewed everything I needed to know.

I have cliffnotes and barrons and reading the same topics from two different authors helps a ton (these books both have their strengths). I also read princeton review, but I’d say it wasn’t as clear in explaining compared to the other two. I got a 3 from studying from these books (and biology is not my strong subject, I’m more of a math kid). Good luck!

I took AP biology test last year while taking an honors bio course, I relied almost completely on the Princeton review book (and the 5-step’s 500 questions book) and was able to score a 5.
