What are the best APs to self study (kind of a combination of easiest but are still taken seriously)? Realistically how many could i self study and how much time would it take? Is it really worth the time?

There are so many APs, and they all are so different, that to say something is easy for one person, may not be true for the next. I, for example, need a teacher to explain Calc, but could probably do World History or Econ by myself. The point is, every student learns differently depending on the subject. It is true not all APs have the same weight. Some, like Environmental Science, for example, don't look as strong. A good rule of thumb is any AP that has founding in a core class like Math, Science, English, or History, looks good. Yes, I know APES is scientific, but it isn't exactly Bio or Chem! Long story short, you don't have to do self study to look good for college. Just focus on what you are doing in school, if you don't like that answer, I'm sorry, but tons of self study looks a little desperate on a college app.

Really? so you dont think it would really help much? My target school is yale but i dont think i'm really qualified. but i'm hoping that even if i dont get in there, setting that goal will help me overall. a self study ap seems like it would look great but maybe not
Also i was wondering what fields i should do. i'm interested in history/humanities so i think it would be easier to do those APs but it would probably be better to take them in college. I dont care as much about math/science but i thought maybe i could do stat and get it out of the way.

Where did you get an idea like that, just wondering

what idea?

That you need to do self study

to show initiative, something extra and the fact that everyone has lots of APs and i'm taking three.

why are you only taking 3?

the only APs my school offers are AP Art History, AP Computer Sci, APUSH (my three this year) AP English, AP Calc, AP US Govt and whatever online classes you want to take. i can take some online ones next year but i would like to take a fun class or two, like video production, drama, newspaper or rejoin band. Since i'm taking honors chemistry this year anyway, i thought i would go ahead and at least take that ap exam.

If your school doesn't offer a ton of AP's colleges won't hold you responsible. Obviously, you have much different circumstances than someone who went to a high school that offered 20+ AP classes. Take what you can and do the best you can, that is the key to college admissions sucess, not impressing them with outside independent study. That is nice, but it won't be viewed with a lot of favor.

vaguy, if you're going to go ahead with the self-study, don't rely on just the class alone. books with lots of practices help. I took the same and then went to AP Chem my junior year.. and let me tell you, AP Chem was so much more depth with the material. I got almost an A+ our of honors chem, but barely a B in AP. I don't know about your school, but just in case! Good luck!

Is Art History a good self-study option?

Is it a tough AP Test?

i've heard that its not a good option. I can see why; the art history books that my school uses are massive. and there are two of them, so thats a freaking lot of art. But i dont really know

i am self-studying four ap's

As I said before, the most respected APs are those grounded in the basic core classes you would normally take. If you take a lot of FLUFF independent study, colleges may look at that and say "hmm that is nice," but it probably wouldn't go much farther than that.

Still looking for easy AP's to self-study from. Art History seems to difficult with too big of a book, but I suppose that if I found interesting manuals, some notes on it, then I could get a 3 if I studied my butt off.

What about some of the other ones? How is Geography or Enviromental Science? Easy/Really Hard? Good books to self-study from?

And I don't mean easy like an easy test. I mean easy to self-study compared to other tests.

softball-hows that going? is it really hard or not too bad? so some good ones to do would be maybe stats, euro/world history or bio? something like that? what about economics i've thought about doing that, would that be good?
and basically, how much is any of this really going to help me?

To be perfectly honest, I think your time would be better spent on something else. Do something original and unique... Devote more time to an EC you love. Something like that. You are already taking the toughest courseload at your school. If you are really set on it, self-study one AP (one that correspnds with academic interests, not just a random one) to show you can handle learning outside classroom walls. But otherwise, do something that will make you truly stand out (as opposed to trying to play catch-up with the guy that goes to a school that offers 20+ APs).

Has anyone else had any luck in self-studying?
