Best Bank to Use at While Student at Dartmouth

Galwain:"Bank of America REJECTED me for setting up a checking account and savings account - believe it or not - saying I need to contact a credit agency to find out why I was rejected - which is amazing to me as I just turned 18 like 2 days before I applied and have no credit history whatsoever. The only thing I can figure is I didn't want their credit card and maybe that's really the only reason they offer college students the free checking."

From your post here, I thought you only applied for checking account and savings account. You did NOT want their credit card and you thought that maybe the reason why you were REJECTED checking/savings account.

I did only apply for the free checking and savings acct, declining their credit card. However - after they sent me a rejection letter - it said to go online w/ trans union to straighten out any problems. When I tried to contact trans union - a credit rating agency - I was unable to do it online because of the first question about a nonexistent loan. Instead of being able to speak w/ a human about it immediately - or i verify their innacurate credit report online - iI was instructed to send a copy of my SS card, drivers license and proof of where I live -and wait 2-6 weeks for a reply - which I don't have - as I need to get an account set up when I arrive at Dartmouth.

The letter from Campus edge checking said "We are unable to open your account(s) at thsi time. Our decision was based in whole or in part on information obtained in a report from a consumer-reporting agency etc and then it said to call Trans Union - where it is all automate dinfo saying to send in a copy of driver's license, social security number - and a copy of a bill with my name and address on it. If I wanted to spend $20 - I woul dget an overnioght response after i mailed in this info.

I have no credit history. I have had a summer job and a savings account. They had no good reason to reject me.

I would suggest that you immediately get a copy of the credit report (especially since you state there is a non-existent loan) to see what is acutally on your credit report and to confirm whether things on the report actually belong to you. You should also discuss with your parents what has happened (especially if you have become a victim of identity theft and someone is opening accounts in your name).

If on the off chance your parents bank at BoA, find out if you can get a linked account to your parents account

galwain:
