I will need to take a loan of about $20k a year for the next two years. I'm an international student, and I have someone who has agreed to be my cosigner.

I am wondering if any international/domestic student here has borrowed a loan from a bank or a financial institution in recent years, and have had NO PROBLEMS with repayments, interest rates, or any of that.

I have heard and read so many bad and sometimes horrible things about Sallie Mae and Citibank and I'm too scared to take a loan, even though I really need it. There are only a handful of other institutions that will lend to internationals, namely banks like Chase and Wells Fargo.

Tough one… Try asking your American co-signer as he may know a bit more after living there. Also the university officers might be able to help you. I can’t think of anything else :(

Your co-signer in the US better not have a FICO score below 630-650 which is probably subprime and very risky especially after the credit crisis where private lenders withdrew from student loan programs. Now, they probably need a FICO score of 740 to 769.
