damnit…i lost lowes, now best buy, prudential still got coca cola

Yeah, I’m calling it quits too. I don’t know why they don’t take the 30 seconds it takes to type an “I’m sorry, but you did not reach the finals.” email though.

I’ve given up as well. I lost Lowes (didn’t finish app), Best Buy, USA Funds, ELKS, Horatio Alger and Walmart. There are plenty I haven’t heard back from yet. But at least I’m a finalist for Cumberland Farms and Gates Millennium.

I’m out, congrats to those who advanced!

Brown, I’m having the same experiences with the same applications. The competition’s just very tough for all of these

Dnerd, agreed, it would save us a lot of stressing.

Ohboi, I lost a lot of those as well. Best of luck with the Gates Millennium and your others though. If you get the Gates, then the rest don’t matter. :)

ughhh i wish i started applying to some of these earlier! I missed out on Coca Cola and stuff! but I’ve made it a priority to fill out at least one if not two or three scholarship apps each day so I hope I get something.

I wonder what kind of stats the finalists had…

Throwing in the towel here, too. I’m not getting why my S isn’t even a finalist on these (Best Buy, Lowes, etc.). I know they are tough to win, and there are lots of kids doing amazing things, but his stats and community service (started his own program which has been written up and been recognized in the media) should have put him right in there --at least to make it past the preliminary round. Especially for this Best Buy one, seeing how the preliminary was just about the numbers and activities. He’s keeping his fingers crossed for AXA community, but there’s an awful lot effort to put in to even submit and one has to wonder about the stats of the finalists.

I’m right with you. I was assuming that Best Buy would be all about test scores and quantity of activities because how can they judge you otherwise? So, I though I would get one, but, I didn’t get it. Scholarships seem to be even more a crapshoot than admissions!

I feel like I can’t win any scholarship no matter how many I’ve tried to. With just stats and number of hours volunteered, I feel like I should’ve been a semi-finalist for something! It’s so frustrating!

what i dont get is there were 1000 winners…so it shoyuldnt have been THAT DIFFICULT to win…

It’s a pretty easy application open to every high school student in the country. I don’t think they release how many people applied, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was 40,000+. A very low percentage will get it, so many qualified students won’t.

in other words brown14, it’s good to be humbled.

well said, sapatel12

Yeah hey guys - I won a provisional scholarship.
That means that I get a thousand bucks and then get entered into the finals round, with opportunities to win more money I guess.
If you haven’t heard by now I’m pretty sure you didn’t get it, sorry.
And for those who said that it’s pretty easy to get - that’s absolutely not always true. I think it goes by store?

:D i just found out i got selected as an alternate provisional scholarship… thank you to whoever wasnt able to fill out the paperwork

NYSpinner Dan, did you get a confirmation back when you sent in your provisional materials? How do you know they got it? That’s really neat that they contact alternates for whomever didn’t send in their prov materials by March 31st.

NYSpinnerDan-I won $1000 too! I sent in my confirmation materials on time but haven’t heard from them at all, have you?

Imprezz - Im right there with you. I helped my daughter apply to about 19 scholarships, some were national ones that probably got a ton of entrants, and a few that were local, less publicized types, so hoping for the local ones?!!

We did not hear from Best Buy as well, oh well
good luck to everyone else !
