Best careers for the future. What are they?

computer science?

thank you all so much for your responses. I still cannot make up my mind!!! My dad, as a software engineer himself, always tells me to find a career where you can be your own boss one day such as a doctor, lawyer, accountant, etc. but yet I now I would hate medical school and law school.

ARGH! What to do ? What to do? What about financial advisors? Any feedback on that career? The future for it? The work environment?

dude, you're a senior in high school. you'll get a lot of new experiences and grow a lot in college, and you still have several years to figure it out. don't freak out if you can't pick a major now (:

My grandmother used to say that no matter how the future is, best career would always be Medicine and Law. Humans can't stop fighting and falling ill.

Thanks ruyi for the reassurance..I guess I am going crazy because the college responses come out soon and the top colleges don't have a business program if i change my mind.

Abhi08544, I can agree with your grandmother, but I wish I was more interested in becoming a doctor. ;)

Questions like this always irked me. Choosing a career isn't like choosing which brand of toothpaste to buy, or what TV, or whatever. Do not just weigh salary and future job security. Such a thought process is a good way to land yourself into a state of depression halfway through college.

Here is how you pick your career and focus of study:

Do what you love.

Do what you are good at.

With #1 taking preference, of course. Even if this means you pick something that is guaranteed to be flooded and outsourced with a pathetic job market...It doesn't matter. Why? Because you will notice that virtually everybody in your career field is merely in it for the money, and has no love of it. This puts you way ahead of the game. Believe me or no, but loving what you do makes all the difference.

In the opposite scenario, if you decide to do what you do simply for a job, you will always find yourself outmatched by people who do it because they love it.

It is difficult to compete with intrinsic motivation.
