What colleges would you recommend for studying guitar? Jazz guitar and studio work is of greatest interest. Thank you.

My coworkers' son went to the New School University in NYC. He'd been playing Jazz Guitar since he was 10 and was pretty serious about it. He really liked his college experience, although I confess that beyond that I don't know much about its reputation or quality. The Jazz & Contemporary Music program is not a part of the Mannes College of Music anymore--it's wholly classical in focus.

I know Pat Metheny studied and taught at Berklee, so it must be pretty good! ;) http://www.berklee.edu/

John Sutherland teaches classical guitar at UGA. He is amazing. (His wife was my kids' piano teacher.) I know that's not exactly what you're looking for, but thought I'd post it in case someone else looking for guitar teachers might care.

Well, if you want a typical degree, then go w/ Berklee. However, if he's looking for something more focused and performance oriented, GIT (Guitar Institute of Technology) in CA would be a good bet.

Vanderbilt's Blair School of Music is a full-scale music conservatory with a more typical undergraduate experience. :)

Check out Indiana's Music School. Also, ditto about New School and Berklee. In CA, you might also look at CalArts.
