Best colleges on each continent?

What are some of the best colleges on each continent (not listing US colleges)?

Europe: Oxford or Cambridge
Asia: Calcutta Tech
South America: Bogata University
Australia: Sydney College
Africa: University of Johannesburg
Antartica: Ross Ice Shelf Community College

*** is Calcutta tech??

He means IIT.

wow I dodnt know there was a college in Antartica.......

Indian Institute of Technology will always have a fond place in my heart (my dad went there), but some other top Asian schools include Xinghua University (in China) and some of the Japanese schools (ie Tokyo National University, Kyoto University)

In North America, the top non-US schools are probably McGills University and University of Toronto.

"Europe: Oxford or Cambridge"

What about La Sorbonne (France)?

ya srsly la sorbonne is really good.. and uh.. theres no college in antartica.. CJgrl.. lollol

IIT definetly has Asia...that college is insanely hard to get into...and insanely hard to stay in...one of the hardest in the world

selectivity doesn't mean anything. According to the new york times, tokyo university if the best in asia followed by beijing and xinghua university. IIT ranks somewhere in the forties.

ah well i stand corrected

nah, rankings don't really mean much. It ultimately depends on the student. :)

40's? Bull. There's some Asian website that ranks it #3, but I don't know how reliable that source is. It definitely has a bigger name than any other Asian university, in the US.

it's not bull, it's ranked 40 some in the WORLD, not asia. Tokyo is 13 or something and beijing is 17. Those may not be the exact rakings, but they're close enough. and xinghua has more international prestige as far as i know.

I always wanted to go to Antartica, and I'm going to before I die.

Oh, world, I see. I thought you meant in Asia. And I didn't even know that there were 40 big universities in Asia.

Oh oh oh! My goal: Ross Ice Shelf Community College! ^^

BTW, where is Calcutta Tech?

IIT has 7 campuses the three i know of are in bombay , delhi and madras...im not sure about the four. but i visted the one in delhi and boy was i impressed. the students were not only geniuses, but SUPER disciplined. after visiting that and MIT, i dont care what the ranking says but id definitley rank IIT better judging by the aptitude of the students, and their approach to their studies. but bottom line: rankings arent always reliable.

seth blue's rankings are the "times higher education supplement" (look it up on wikipedia, it's a unique paper), not nytimes (there's a thread in the harvard forum--harvard #1 in world where he might have seen them) . . .
the IITs have a lot of international prestige, but the methodology of rankings dropped them to 40's . . .
even though I am desi, I have to say that Tokyo University has the temporary edge . . . in a few years, when some of the IIT initiatives go through (e.g. business incubators, etc) they will be better . . . the problem is the singular focus on engineering and less on pure research which is done at places like the indian institute of sciences
However, I think they will surpass both the Japanese and Chinese universities (their main competition)--the talent pool is just too high and they are very selective. IIT is technically one school, in a sense, it's like lumping Tsinghua and Peking University (Western names for these Chinese schools) together and then cutting to 1/4 the number of students . . . kids study for 12 hours a day to get into these schools

nonetheless, all of these schools are prestigous, and will soon be competitive in many fields (not just a few specific ones) with Europe, and then, America
