Best Critical Reading and Math Books for SAT?

What are the best Critical Reading and Math Books for the SAT?

Any suggestions?

I really need help.

Thanks.

i need this too.

The Blue Book - only thing I used :).

Ok, so I got my scores back yesterday (Jan 27) and they were pretty bad...

Math (REAL problem!) 490
I think why I did so poorly because I TOTALLY forgot all the geometry stuff (took it frosh yr. and got an A both semesters but forgot everything!) and am just retarded in math. I'm in precal right now and have a B. My teacher might help me with some concepts and I am taking a class offered at my school (only $25!) so I'm hoping my score willbe 600-650.

Critcal Reading 660
I think I can bring this up at least to 750+ because I studied no vocab and was torn b/w 2 anwsers for a few passage ?'s Plus I'm reading a book a week to increase my reading speed.

Writing 700 (Essay 9)
My essay score should have been higher but proctor timed it wrong (I know bc I had stop watch) and I missed out on my 5 minutes for finishibg conclusion (!) and proofreading so I think I can get 11 or 12 next time (June)
and brush up on grammar rules to get 800.

Ya'll please let me know if I am being realistic about my SAT goals. Can someone who has been in my situation (or somewhere close to it) let me know?
Thanks ya'll!

Alfred, I AM so sorry that I took over your thread but I am desperate UChicago has been my dream college for ever and I'm scared that i will not score hight enough to get in and I could not find the link I used to post thresd last time. So I figured since your topic is SAT related I would post my problem here! Sorr agaain!

CR -- no book. Just study the SparkNotes 1000 word list (which is REALLY GOOD) and do the blue book practice tests. ( I scored 750). But I guess CR is based a lot on inherent ability and it depends on how much you read while growing up. I read a lot of books so that really helped I guess.
I gotta admit, though. CR is a tad bit based on luck. I mean the first two times I took the SAT I scored 660 and I HATED the passages. The third time, the passages were fun, one was about comics, more specifically critics who hated comic-reading and I remember showing the passage the finger because I completely disagreed with the author even though I liked the passage xD

Math -- If you really want to do well and have lots of time for test prep, I would suggest Barron's and Barron's SAT 2400.
[I didn't do either for Math though, I did the Sparknotes math section and practiced from the blue book. If I had done it I think I would have hit 800 instead of scoring 740(2 mistakes) ]

Writing -- Barron's SAT 2400 and SparkNotes is ALL you need for the MCQs. ( I improved from a 570 with an 8 essay to a 720 with a 10 in the essay)

Thanks SO much!!!!!!!!

Could someone explain the blue book

The blue book is the book that the Collegeboard releases of actual past tests. It is the ultimate book for practice testing

if the blue book releases past tests, then how come the scoring is always with ranges instead of exact numbers..? Is it because the past tests have never actually been administered so there is no curve?

When you say spark notes for the writing section, which book are you referring to?

I'm referring to this
http://www.sparknotes.com/testprep/books/newsat/

I have heard that the blue book is not composed of actual tests, but instead made up of test tests that college students took so that the College Board could see how hard their new SAT's were compared to the old ones... or something like that.

Anyway, www.*****.org has good SAT book reviews on it.

CEEA E.org is the site. And by saying this, I am not attempting to get you to purchase anything from the site or to contribute to it in any way. It was just very helpful to me.

The Barron's ones (Barron's 2400, writing and Cr) - very good

I have the barrons Writing and Critical Reading workbook. Are those sufficient to improve Cr and W, or would you recommend, the 2400 book.

Barron's (both 2400 and CR) is very good. But i have one question for Barron's CR: I used the book for improving reading passages, and it worked out wonderfully. But I think that my SC was what I got killed in last SAT and wondered how I should study the SC part of the book. I haven't really did any problem but I don't want to just waste the useful problems.. Any effective way to use them?

xcrunner18 - I'd say that those books suffice because each book is focused on CR, W, respectively. Nothing could get better.

grayfalcon89 - regarding SC, this one is a tricky question. I think that referring to the sentences' context clues is the best way to solve those questions, though, knowing definitions of words might help well. Though, I've never went over them "1000 SAT-Word Lists"
