Best dorm for engineers?

Hey everyone,
I'm most likely going to Northeastern for engineering next year, and I wanted to know what the best dorm would be. Do engineers all live together or is everyone spread out? If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know. Thanks so much!

Freshmen can’t choose particular dorms. You can choose an LLC (living learning community) so you could choose the engineering LLC if you want to live with other engineers.

There are two different academic LLCs for the freshmen COE student. Engineering (all male) or Sustainability and Green Science.

My son is going for engineering (EE or ECE) and wants to choose the Sustainability and Green Science LLC instead of the COE LLC. He doesn’t much care if clean coal is really clean, he just thinks he would “fit-in” better there than in the COE LLC. He thinks the COE LLC would be too “hardcore engineering” for him to relate and he wants to be on a co-ed floor. He has already found a roommate who is in the science program.

Should I be worried that he will not get the benefit of an LLC since his roomy and many of the people on his floor will be in different classes are are somewhat less demanding? Or since its still an academia LLC, does it really make a difference for the first year?

Really doesn’t matter. He’ll make plenty of friends in his classes, so it won’t matter that he’s not living two doors down. It’s better to live with people you’ll get along with more than to live with people you think you’ll have the same classes with, in my opinion.

Just to point out, freshmen only have “co-ed floors” when half the floor is one gender and half the floor is another (other than honors LLC in IV). Everywhere else is one gender per floor. But honestly, it doesn’t matter at all. It’s only like that because of the bathrooms.

Thanks neuchimie.
I’m feeling better about his LLC choice now. Why do you think the COE LLC is all male unlike most others? And if there are mostly no co-ed floors, what’s the difference anyway?

And an honors engineer (female)?

Do honor students receive better accomodations?

Not really sure about the male COE one. It was a past one (whereas most of the LLCs are new this year) and as far as I know, it’s always been male.

Honors students as freshmen are housed in International Village. The honors LLC is mostly two doubles connected by a bathroom, whereas most of the other freshmen dorms have communal bathrooms.
