Best dorm

Could you please compare the dorms?

Which is the best dorm for a student who loves to study, have a meal plan/dining area in the dorm, and less partying environment in the dorm?

Do all dorms allow pets?

It’s hard to make general comparisons of all dorms as few people are actually familiar with them and at least some dorms are divided into very heterogeneous parts. You can try using the search function to find old stereotypes though which I think convey some amount of truth.

I think Maseeh, McCormick (if female), Simmons, and Next House would all meet these requirements.

No. Only EC, Random, and Senior House and pets are only allowed in parts of those dorms. And not all pets are allowed either.

I don’t think any dorm in any college allows pet, except for blind people. I’d love to have a dog in college, it’s such a great stress reliever.

undefined has no idea about what he/she is talking about. Several dorms at MIT allow cats. http://web.mit.edu/dormcon/pets/petpol.pdf

Also, I don’t know if this is relevant, but I talked to a couple of current students about a month ago, and they told me that CPW (Campus Preview Weekend) is a great time to go and see all the cultures in each of the dorms, and get to see, instead of read about, which dorm is right for you. Plus. Metric boatloads of food.

hey guys, j/w, mac or pc???

(there is no best dorm, depends entirely on your preferences)

@MITChris mac.

Baker was too much of a party dorm for my daughter when she was a freshman. She thought she’d like the lively environment since she’s very outgoing and gregarious but drunk kids running through the halls and doing stupid things like tearing stuff off of people’s doors, dumping out trash cans in the common areas and puking got annoying really quickly. She’s much happier in her Sorority house.

Do all dorms allow small pets (as opposed to cats)?

No. I think fish are allowable everywhere. Things like hamsters are not necessarily allowable everywhere, though people certainly have them (with roommate consent if applicable).

All dorms allow fish. Random, EC, and Senior House allow cats, at least the first two on specific floors only. I’m pretty sure that’s it.

You’ll get a much better picture of the dorms during CPW than anything we could paint for you here.

Also, not all fish are aquatic things with fins, and not all fish live in water. It really depends on the fish.

I’ll note that housing thinks all fish have fins and live in water. So sometimes you don’t want to tell them too much about your fish,

I knew a fish in Baker once that was surprisingly furry, with pointy ears and a cottonball tail, and locomoted by hopping. You’d be surprised by the variety of fish in the dorms.

That is quite the unique fish. What strange fish we have at MIT.
