Does anyone know which is the best dorm? Price is not a problem. Don't really care about parties, just big rooms, huge closets, and doubles only! Also, close proximity to the campus (mostly science classes) would be nice.

Best dorms are definitely the apartments… Wada and Martinez are both great. No forced meal plan, kitchen, lounge, apartment bathroom is cleaned every week, etc. But those aren’t open to freshmen. :P

Foothill: Suites! But I think some of the suites are pretty big, so it ends up more like a normal floor. You’ll also be pretty close to the engineering corner of campus, so a lot of STEM majors tend to end up in Foothill… though as a freshman you’ll probably have class all over campus. Northside is quieter than south side.

Bowles/Stern: The halls are all male/all female. Bowles (all guys) is typically considered the worst dorm.

Clark Kerr: Known for having the biggest rooms, but it’s also the farthest from campus.

Unit 1/2/3: These are pretty similar, apart from location.
Doubles/Triples: Never lived in one, heard that they’re tiny. You’ll also be sharing a bathroom with the whole floor. The highrises are typically more social, since people have less reason to hide in their rooms.

Mini-suites: Your suite (4 people) gets its own bathroom, and it’s cleaned every week. The rooms are also a lot bigger than the highrises. But you get this awkward double door thing going on, where the suite door opens into a tiny square of hallway and then you’ve got two bedroom doors and a bathroom on the sides. Either way, you’re not sharing a bathroom with the whole floor, and you get a nice bedroom.

Suites: I haven’t seen any of the suites in the units, I think it’s rarer than mini-suites and highrises though. I’m not sure how big the rooms are, sorry.

The housing site is pretty good at showing off the rooms, if you’re wondering about space/layout. http://www.housing.berkeley.edu/livingatcal/
