Sue, you don't want to be using the airport at Islip. It's too far from Manhattan. LaGuardia is the best of the NYC airports (LaG, Newark, JFK) in terms of ease of connecting ground travel.

I agree with alwaysamom as I've lived on L.I. many yrs. ago. Islip is small and too far. As I mentioned before, LGA is most convenient followed by Newark & JFK. (Your boys will thank you.) :-)

alwaysamom and Mainstage,

Thank you for the advice. I have flown into both LAg and Newark but I wasn't responsible for PLANNING those particular trips...so this is enlightening.

best,

After reading all of ya'lls great information about Southwest's program I got online and looked up information on it. I could not find any thing about the double rewards for college students. So if someone with information on that, could tell me where to find information on that part of their program I would deeply appreciate it.

Call Southwest (800.435.9792) and ask them for the fax # to enroll your child in the college rapid rewards program. If your child is already a member of rr like mine was, include on the fax your child's rr#, a copy of the school id, and a copy of the driver's license.. write on the paper that that you want the student enrolled in the college rr program... You might ask the rep what other info you need to provide. Then do a follow up call
(get the college rr # if one exists) and make sure your paperwork was received. That should do it.

Also,
to take advantage of the college double points, the reservation must be made online. That's no trouble but they must be online. The points for free flights really add up quickly.

oh and I think I signed D up over the phone with one of the operators. I don't remember sending any paperwork, driver's license etc. It was very easy.

Found this on another forum, thought it sounded like something to look into on my student's next flight. I have had good luck with Kayak in the past, tho they don't list Southwest's flights. I particularly like that it searches neighboring airports which can be a savings.
This thread was talking about StudentUniverse. Sounds like it's worth a search...
