Frequent Flyer Rewards program

Is it a good idea to sign up for some kind of rewards program that accumulates points since I’ll spend the next four years booking flights to and from college? I’ll usually fly Southwest Airlines, should I sign up for their program?

Sounds like a good idea. I can’t imagine there’s a downside to doing so…

I sign up for all types of frequent buyer/flyer/diner/guest programs and it’s a great way to get free stuff or special perks!

Absolutely.

In my mind, there has never been a reason to not sign up for those type of rewards program (even including unsavory items such as data collection).

As a person who gained mid-tier status with American Airlines at 16 (thank you FlyerTalk and Boarding Area), the best advice I can give is to create a frequent flyer number for every airline that you do fly, but never rely on any particular airline as your only form of conveyance unless the rewards outweight the costs (which they generally do not, unless you have status).

Google Flights is your friend.

It’s free to sign up, and u have nothing to lose.

Some of these programs have lifetime benefits if you reach certain levels. It makes sense to sign up as early as you can. Sign up for the programs with the major hotel chains, too.

Yes. Pro tip: Delta miles never expire.
