The best homemade fried cakes, bar none, come from the Doughnut Shack right off Rte 28 in Eagle Bay, New York. It isn't open in the winter. It is a run-down looking "shack" with a big plywood doughnut hanging out front, and 2 older ladies who sit inside frying doughnuts all day-except Tuesday. They make 2 kinds, plain and cinnamon sugar. Doughnut nirvana!
This really shouldn't be under Midd, but I'm happy to hear your favorites.

Hmmm, great doughnuts! And, for those students from central & western NY you can take the ‘short cut’ through the Adirondacks, past this doughnut shop to get home (only do not go this way in the winter). And now I’ve brought this thread back to relevance for Midd families.

Rumor has it that Alexander Twilight (Middlebury Alum and first African American graduate of an American College) loved donuts. Ari Fleischer (Middlebury Alum and former White House Press Secretary) used to provide donuts for the White House Press Corps. Vanessa Branch (Middlebury Alum and star of the Orbit Gum Commercials) always has a piece of gum after finishing a donut. John Deere (Middlebury Alum and founder/inventor of the company that ploughed the plains) helped grow some of the products used in the manufacture of donuts. Jim Davis (Middlebury Alum and founder of New Balance shoes) suggests you wear his shoes to work off all the donuts you eat. Both Roswell Field (Middlebury Alum and lawyer for Dred Scott in the famous case) and Samuel Nelson (Middlebury Alum and US Supreme Court Justice) enjoy donuts while in Recess. Lado Gurgenidze (Middlebury Alum and Prime Minister of Georgia) believes his country would benefit from more American donuts. Felix Rohatyn (Middlebury Alum and US Ambassador to France) missed American donuts while in France. Roger Easton (inventor of GPS) has used his invention to find donuts.

Not sure how much of this is true, but you can definitely connect Middlebury to donuts!

Thanks! I feel much better now!
