I am an admitted transfer student and am in the process of filling out my housing forms. I have the option to choose preference (top 3) of a variety of housing options including suites, apartments, as well as traditional double “dorm” rooms… I lived in a suite at my previous school as well as the standard double room, which I didn’t mind but I preferred the suite. Does any upperclassmen student have an idea if the apartments are the better deal than the suites? If not, what are the best suites to look at (i.e. 4/6/8 person). Thanks

You’re probably going to end up in Edmonds.

good/bad? normal?

Edmonds is at the lower end of the totem pole on Lower Campus. But anything is better than College Road post-Freshmen year.

When do we find out about our housing decisions. I applied for a single and was wondering when I would find out if I’m getting one, so that if I don’t I can move on and try to get a roommate. I don’t want to choose a roommate now because I think it will eliminate any chance (albeit small) of getting a single.

If you are a freshman you get your decision in early august, first couple days. For transfer, I would go with an apartment. They are bigger and nicer than suites and give you more flexibility with meal plans. Within suites, the 8 mans are the best because they have a common area whereas the four and six mans do not.

What about the traditional rooms? As a junior transfer, is it best to live on college road or lower campus? Thanks.

You won’t be on college road as a junior. You’ll either be in SIG, Vandy, 90 or Edmonds. If you’re even eligible for housing junior year, you’ll probably be placed in the aforementioned. Hopefully, you won’t get Edmonds. That building blows but if you want a kitchen, then it’s your best bet. It’s a double-edged sword.

You won’t be in Ignacio, Rubenstein, Voute, Gabelli or the Mods as these are predominantly senior housing. The best from these, imo is Voute & Gabelli. I lucked out and got a Voute townhouse one year and it was *ing sweet! The Mods are cool for partying but they’re *holes to live in.

Thanks for all the information. I’m a transfer student (incoming junior) and they said I have only my first year guaranteed - essentially I either use that year this year or lose it. I’m trying to get a single, which I hear is almost impossible - 66 has singles but mostly sick people I’ve been told - Is Greycliffe any good?

Greycliff is off-campus as a dorm but I lived there one semester and unofficially, nearly everyone in the building has a single. Although, I had two beds, I didn’t have a roommate. The rooms are pretty spacious for one person too. That’s if you get a double as a single. If you get a real single, it’s going to be a little small but nothing too crazy if you don’t have alot of stuff. I’d recommend it if you want a ‘single’. Plus, there’s a kitchen down in the basement if you want to cook. Just try to have your own fridge in your room for your food because people would steal food out of the main basement fridge. Not cool!

People don’t usually request Greycliff because it is a walk to campus, but the upside is that the bus stops right in front of the building. To be honest, the walk never bothered me since I usually walked to and from CVS in Cleveland Circle every other day.

Does Greycliffe usually fill up - be it regular singles or doubles used as singles - cuz that seems like a reasonable option for me if there is availability. How many rooms do they have there? Thanks again for all the information!

It usually doesn’t fill up. There are three floors and for the most part, I would see some rooms left unoccupied the entire time, either vacant or with only one person in there.

How do I request Greycliffe, or do I get placed there? I submitted my non-medical needs for a single, I kinda hope I’m not in 66 since that’s mostly really sick people I’ve been told. Is it luck of the draw, and can you appeal/ change your residence hall? Thanks again!!!
