Best laptop to choose for business (and a bit of gaming on the side)

I'm gonna be a freshman at UMD next year and I got into the business school. I'm currently looking for a new laptop and was wondering if anybody had any recommendations as to what laptop would be best for a business student. I usually prefer Windows to OSX but there are so many windows options that it's kind of confusing. I heard that UMD provides their students with all of the Microsoft Office Suite apps, so would that mean that even if I got a mac I wouldn't be at a disadvantage with having a different version of excel or stuff like that. Any recommendations would be helpful.

Check out the ACT program. They offer Apple or Dell. You should be fine with a Dell Latitude. https://login.umd.edu/cas/login?service=https://www.helpdesk.umd.edu/purchasing/Dell/login/index.cfm</a>. How serious of a gamer are you?

Not too serious. By gaming I mean civilization and the total war games at the most. I’m not sure if the graphics card and the cpu and gpu would be up to par. Of course it’s not a necessity, I was just wondering.

If you’re looking for a really good laptop that can also play games I really recommend the Lenovo ideapad y510p. It’s under $1000 (depending on the exact specs) and runs every single game out on the market right now. Just make sure you’re getting one that has a SLI graphics card.

School laptops are always overpriced IMO. Outside of the warranty there’s zero reason to buy a laptop from the school.
