Because you don't need to major in forensics to actually do forensics.

CSI is obviously a fictional show, but you can read the biographies of the fictional characters and see that none of the CSI characters actually majored in forensics. Grissom has degrees in biology. Catherine Willows graduated in Medical Technology. Sara has a BS in Physics from Harvard (which is bull because Harvard only offers AB degrees in physics), and also got a master's at Berkeley. Nick majored in Criminal Justice. Warrick in Chemistry. Greg Sanders - Chemistry (from Stanford). I don't know what Captain Brass, Sofia, or Dr. Robbins majored in, but I don't think it was forensics.

But in any case, the point is, you don't need to major in a particular field as an undergrad to actually pursue a career in that field. It probably helps, but you don't actually need it. Plenty of people end up pursuing highly successful careers in fields that have nothing to do with what they majored in as undergrads. As a case in point, Vernon Smith majored in EE at Caltech. He then got a PhD in Economics at Harvard and went on to win the Nobel Prize in Economics for his work in Behavioral Economics. I think it's safe to say that behavioral economics has nothing to do with EE.

Amherst (primarily strong in the traditional disciplines, particularly in the Humanities and Social Sciences)
Bard College (Humanities and Social Sciences)
Carleton College (primarily strong in the traditional disciplines, particularly in the social and hard sciences)
Connecticut College (Humanities and Social Sciences)
Columbla U, Columbia Coll (all traditional disciplines)
Duke (Humanies and Social and Life Sciences)
UCB (strong in everything)
NYU (Business, the Social Sciences, Humanities, Mathematics, Nursing, Film)
Harverford College (primarily strong in the traditional disciplines)
Hamilton College (not sure)
Davidson College (primarily the traditional disciplines, particularly the Social and Life Sciences)
Knox College (not sure)
Lafayette College (not sure)
Lehigh U (Business, Engineering, Humanities, Social Sciences)
UVa (strong in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Business)
Harvey Mudd College (very strong in the Hard Sciences)
Oberlin College (primarily strong in the traditional disciplines)
Wesleyan U (primarily strong in the traditional disciplines, especially in the Social Sciences. Also has a good Film school)
Williams College (primarily strong in the traditional disciplines as well as in Art History)

i can say first hand that the strongest/'best' departments at connecticut college are:

Art
Art History
Chemistry
Dance
Economics
Education
English
Environmental Studies
History
International Relations
Political Science
Psychology (one of the best of any LAC)
Religious Studies

(I can also say that it probably isnt the best school if you want to study Math, Computer Science or Physics, even though I know several majors who are currently at very high profile grad programs.)

At Harvey Mudd pretty much all 6 majors are great. The engineering department is the most renowned, but the rest of the departments are just as solid.
