Do you guys think it's more effective to
1) read the entire passage first then answer all the questions
or
2) underline certain lines, read the passage until an underlined portion, answer that specific question and repeat
or
3) both methods suck so try doing this ___________.
THANKS! i really need help with passages (my greatest weakness) :(
this is a similar thread but...

do it both ways and see what is best for you. I take them one at a time 2 if possible, but just keep reading until you think you get it

I usually give myself no more than two minutes to do a skim of the passage and take in the main ideas. Then I go to the questions. First I do the ones that have specified an area where I can find the answer, then when I move on to the others (i.e. Purpose questions) I usually have gained enough knowledge on the passage to answer it. However, my most successful method has been using elimination. Actually go through all of the answer choices and don’t look for what’s right, but what’s wrong. But before you decide an answer is wrong be sure you have a valid reason why. I went from a 640 to a 790 when I used elimination, payed attention to details, AND PRACTICED. A LOT. Good luck!!

Method 2 is much better for me. I do the underlined questions so that what I read is still fresh in my mind as I answer the question. The questions also help you get a better understanding of the entire passage and so when you go back to answer questions like " what is the authors tone…" you feel like you have a better understanding of the passage
