Best party university in Cali ?

@AlbionGirl I would assume he’s at City College of London, not a college of acupuncture.

The link is to City College of London. They have courses in business as well as acupuncture.

In any case, unless OP attends a university such as UCL or LSE the same thing applies.

For just part of a school year, I think Davis is probably your best spot. There’s plenty of college nightlife down-town - plus the occasional fraternity party. When you tire of they, downtown Sac also has alot going on. Tahoe, Yosemite and the Bay Area are all pretty spectacular and very drive able from Davis.

Either way, I too agree if you’re looking for a cake walk, UCSD is hardly the place for it.

I personally think you shouldn’t focus on actually getting a full “party experience” here in California because you do have a couple of things going against you:

-You’re only here for one term (semester/quarter) and believe it or not, you will have to actually take classes and study for them. As much as you may have heard, the students do care about their studies and grades in California colleges. And, students do take the time to build friendships/relationships over the course of 4 years; that’s the true college experience.

-It sounds like you want the “wild” Greek Life experience, and in one term, you can’t rush to join a frat, that’s just not gonna happen-especially at a UC. As @siliconvalleymom stated: a number of those parties won’t be open to you because you won’t be in the greek system and you are 23. The ladies do not like being near hung-over, smelly older students. Not cool. The 18 y.olds like being with 18 y.olds. If you are a smoker, it will be even worse. Not cool to smoke or VAPE in California.

Arrive to the US prepared to study and meet some new friends but you may be setting yourself up for disappointment if you think that you will be partying hard, 24/7 every night and sowing your wild oats.

(Some universities have noise curfews in their greek rows, especially during the work week.)

I firmly believe that the undergrad level of public universities in the US isn’t as high as you make them out to be. I passed both maths exams here with an A, so I will not be worried about maths for that matter.

I am an outgoing person, with good looks, a good body & full of confidence. I don’t think it will be difficult for me to get into parties or for that matter get into the girl’s pants (the British accent does help). Especially at undergrad level.

I feel like we’re not quite on the same wavelength here lol

For a smart, good looking guy from the UK, you certainly have not done enough research. USC is the party school with a business major and lots of beautiful people. I should know because I have a kid graduated from there. UCSD is not a party school, while I don’t agree with the nick name Socially Dead but it ain’t raging party either. I should know because I have a kid there. UCSB is probably more party than USC because the USC kids used to go there for Halloween. Your accent will be more impressed in the LA area.

“I firmly believe that the undergrad level of public universities in the US isn’t as high as you make them out to be.” Based on what? Have you studied in both countries? I have.

Anyway, go ahead and ignore the advice. It will be amusing to contemplate the outcome.

I, too, am having trouble deciding whether or not I should attend UCSD based on a legit college experience. I’m worried if I don’t choose this school, I will be missing out on its prestige and overall academics, but I’m also concerned about party life. I really want to find the best UC with the perfect balance between work and play, excluding LA(rejected) and berkeley(pending) because of my slim chances of admission. I also have UCI, UCSB, UCSC to choose from.

Anymore thoughts on UCSD’s general college experience?

It depends on what you want out of your college experience. Mine rejected USC and UCSB because deep down inside she didn’t want to go to school with a party reputation.

Cal State Chico - hard to get to and in a small, rural town
Cal State East Bay - commuter school across from San Francisco
Cal State Fullerton - primarily commuter school in Orange Co., not near a beach
Cal State Los Angeles - don’t be deceived by the name…
Cal State Northridge - mostly commuter school in the San Fernando Valley suburbs, hard to get around
University of California Davis - much said upthread, remembering that Northern and Southern California are very different. Davis may not give you the non-stop party scene, but will allow you to see lots of the state
University of California San Diego - much said upthread
University of California Riverside - one of the more commuter, less social of the UC’s
UCSB - is a more isolated student community, but will give you the social life

If your goal is more social than academic (and why not?) don’t rule out SDSU. Although you’ll potentially be taking courses with other Europeans, it’s a big school and you’re sure to get beyond any classroom limitations. Remember that the reason you’ll be taking classes with other foreign students is that all programs at SDSU are impacted and that’s the only way to guarantee that exchange students get any classes at all.

Oh, and don’t call it Cali…

FYI: re “I don’t think it will be difficult for me to get into parties or for that matter get into the girl’s pants (the British accent does help). Especially at undergrad level.”

Do you not have news updates from the states across the pond?

Young women at US colleges are proactively demonstrating about sexual intimidation and being aware of people on the prowl. You need to put your hormones in check and hit the reality button.
Where did you get your antiquated information from? A 1960’s magazine?
