I moved to Hammond, Louisiana in 2009 as my wife is from here. I have a degree from Stanford in biology but have recently been trying to get into computer science. I want to get a Masters from somewhere outside of Louisiana (possibly at UT Austin if I can get in). I can't just jump into a Masters program because I don't have the required background. Right now I'm in my 2nd semester at SLU as a transfer student, taking CS and math classes. I like it, but I'm wondering if I should try going somewhere else to increase my competitiveness. Particularly I have been looking at LSU and ULL. I'm not sure whether it would matter for my prospects of getting in to a great grad school.

You can take Tulane University into consideration.

Are you currently at SLU (SE Louisiana University)?

I’m curious…since you’re married, don’t you have to go to college somewhere near where your wife is living?

If you go to LSU or elsewhere, won’t that incur extra living expenses or can your wife relocate with you?

tulane is very expensive. If you don’t have the funds to pay for Tulane, that would probably be impossible.

If money is no object, and you and your wife can live anywhere in LA, then look at Tulane or LSU.

I don’t think tulane has computer science. UNO has a good program too.
