Best place to transfer for english majors

I'm entering community college fall 09 and hoping to major in english (or communications)
I'm in California & looking at UCB, UCLA, & UCD

I know UCLA is impacted with both majors so it's a matter of pre-reqs & GPA I guess.

What other schools would you recommend, in & outside of California?

Berkeley is the place to be for english majors. The program is tops.

These are the best GRADUATE English programs according to Gourman Report so I would assume they also have a strong English undergraduate program:

^yes I would assume so too.

You should also look at LAC’s because many have outstanding English programs that are focused on undergrads. Grad rankings are based mostly on the accomplishments of professors and graduate students, not on the learning outcomes of undergraduates. Swarthmore, Williams, Pomona,l Middlebury, Oberlin, Grinnell and many other LAC’s have great programs, as do schools like Berkeley and UCLA.

English is a field where you don’t need expensive labs, etc, so the size of the program should not matter that much. While looking at schools, look at the breadth and depth of courses that interest you. The programs listed above have large (extensive) programs. Focus on any school with good graduate placement and career placement.
