Best places to Study the field?

Do you recommend a degree in the field or not?

It’s all about passion and drive and desire…this is not a profession for the faint of heart or those who want to live a life of luxury while they are pursuing this career path…

My question is should I continue to train with Acting coaches or pursue a degree in the field.

Those in the business do both…they pursue/audition/book work and continue to train…it never stops.

What do the acting coaches you are currently training with say? Are these big name NYC, LA or Chicago coaches? If not, the general answer these days is that it’s best to lay your acting foundation in a good college program and then continue from there whether that be in grad school or in the professional studios depending on your goals as an actor. You haven’t given us enough information to determine whether or not you might qualify as an exception.

If you’re talking about coming to LA straight out of high school, here’s a post from a couple of years ago that kind of scratches the surface on what you’re up against assuming you aren’t independently wealthy or don’t have extremely indulgent parents … http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/16240253#Comment_16240253

Would you go to college if you were interested in a different degree? What I mean is that a college degree is never a bad idea, but I understand that there are plenty of people who aren’t interested in pursuing a college degree and some of those make it in the field of acting. Some who do pursue a degree also make it in the field of acting. If you’re someone who would lean toward a college degree, that degree can be of use to you if you don’t find that acting can make a living for you.
