Best Pre Med in Virginia? (besides UVA)

I have a 3.33 unweighted and a 3.75 weighted GPA (4.0 scale) and a 2050 on my SATs (will be improving these to AT LEAST 2150-ish) and I am hispanic. I'm going to apply to UVA but I don't think I'll get in because I haven't done many extracurricular or sports (because I moved and it sucked :P) and because my GPA is not that great.
What other schools besides UVA will be affordable (I live in VA but if there are cheap out-of-state schools feel free to suggest) but also a good, competitive school for Pre Med? One with a good program, opportunity for research, volunteering/interning, and other opportunities that will look good on my app for med school. I want to go to a competitive medical school so don't tell me that it doesn't matter where I go for undergrad because I know for ivy-league and ultra top-tier medical schools it does.
I would PREFERABLY be on an urban campus or near the beach (so not TOO north) with lots of diversity in the student body and cool study abroad options.

Also, what are my chances at UVA? I have taken I have taken 5 APs, I am taking 3 APs right now, and have taken lots of honors. I have gotten mostly 4s and one 5 (as well as one 1 and one 2) on my APs. Will the lower scores (which the 1 by the way was a complete FREAK OUT on my part, never been so scared in my life to take a test) mess me up?

I know this was a crap load of information but I just feel like I'm going in circles with looking for colleges and I haven't even really started applying! Thank you so much for being understanding :) Any advice helps.

<<< I want to go to a competitive medical school so don’t tell me that it doesn’t matter where I go for undergrad because I know for ivy-league and ultra top-tier medical schools it does.<<<

Oh really? How do you “know it does”?

And, what is a “competitive med school”?

And, what is an “ultra top tier” medical school to you and what do you consider the other med schools?

What is your budget? How much will your parents pay?

What will your major be?

What is your M+CR SAT??

Your UW GPA may hurt you for the best schools.

Take a look at Virginia Commonwealth in Richmond and University of Richmond.

And there is no such thing as ‘a competitive medical school.’ They are all highly selective. Harvard and some of the others are well known for academic medicine and research. Unless that’s your direction, the ‘brand name’ is of very little value. If you are planning to practice medicine, it doesn’t matter which medical school you go to. As for choosing an undergraduate school, all you need is a place where the basic sciences are taught well and you don’t incur debt (because medical school is wickedly expensive.) Generally, medical schools care first and foremost about your GPA and your MCAT score. If you do well, you are fortunate to be in Virginia which has a number of in-state medical schools, which cost half as much as private and oos medical schools.

Do a search on cc for pre-med - there are many threads on this topic and an entire forum devoted to preparing for medical school.

I always get a chuckle when I read posts like this, a 17-year-old kid that already knows it all. By the time she is a college senior, assuming she is still interested in a career as a doctor, she will celebrate an acceptance by any acredited medical school.

VCU is on the list of the best medical schools by US News. Maybe Mary Washington would be a good fit too. Though Mary Wash hospital does not have the best reputation so you might wanna do more research into the medical program.

That should probably say there is no such thing as a non-competitive medical school.
