Best SAT prep courses and books

Ok, my school has an offer for Kaplan which i can't do because it interferes with my travel softball practice. So basically my parents either want me to get online or private tutoring?
so what is the best
Kaplan? PR? Ivy Bound?
Also what are the best prep books?
(btw, i'm taking the new SAT, but any new info would be helpful)
thanks

i took a princeton review course over the summer in preparation for the new sat. i found it to be pretty helpful. they give you a lot of hints on working through the questions and how to bs through the essay. my course was $999... which was like the grand course that had everything: sat prep, psat review before psat, sat review before actual test. you should request for a brochure... it's more helpful that what i'm telling you.

i took pr also which was more or less a "read out of the book" type of instruction. Do the course only if you lack self motivation. The course itself was ok, math was pretty helpful but verbal was more or less useless because the only way you can improve in it is to practice.

i agree with icyfire... i learned a lot of shortcuts for math and how to ballpark your way out of a question without doing the problem. verbal wasn't that helpful at all... personally, i think you and i should just: learn as much vocab without our brains exploding, get used to reading, try to read faster, and practice, practice, practice.

The best prep course is to self-study.

I think Prep Courses are a waste of money.

The best way to improve on the SAT is to buy 10 Reals and practice from there.
Study the test and find the patterns that ETS uses.
