Best school for Fashion Design

I’m currently a junior in high school and I want to study fashion/apparel design in college. I’ve been researching about schools such as Kent State, Drexel, University of Cincinnati, MassArt, and Columbia College. I’m leaning towards Kent State and Drexel, but I’m open to the other schools. If anyone has any advice or information for any of these schools in regard to tuition (out of state), quality of education, internships, college life, etc. please share. I am also looking at UT Austin as I live in Texas, but I’ve found little to no information about their Textiles and Apparel Program, so if anyone has information about UT Austin that would be great.

Check out Marist - Nearly 90% of fashion majors study abroad at least once during their four years. Students also have the opportunity to participate in Marist in Manhattan, an internship program that uses the campus’s proximity to New York City—a fashion industry hub—to full advantage. Earlier this year, the College opened a center on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan in the heart of the Fashion District.

Hello. I hope your search is going well. I am helping my daughter figure out possibilities now based on cost and other factors. We ruled out Kent State and Drexel even though they have great programs. Drexel in particular is very expensive and IMO not worth the tuition. Other options to look at would be Iowa State University. If you google search top public universities for apparel design it is listed as a solid choice. They also give great merit money to those who are out of state. Other programs you may want to check out are University of Delaware, Indiana University, Auburn University, University of Minnesota, and Fashion Institute of Technology and Miami University Oxford OH. These are all public schools and most will offer some sort of merit if you meet the criteria of gpa. We are also thinking about University of Cincinnati. We too could not find the information we were looking for at University of Texas but they do have a program. It just didn’t seem as broad as the others. If you want a private school that possibly Savannah College of Art and Design…again I felt this was too limited for my daughter and more expensive that at a public university. Good luck!

My daughter is looking at the Retail Management with Fashion Design and Technology Concentration at Purdue. Have you heard anything either way about that program? She is excited about the possibility of study in London or NY FIT for a semester.
