Hi, although im only a freshmen in highschool i have allready started thinking about college ( which is a good thing i assume) My criteria for a college is as followes:

i want to go to a big university with the whole football teams and basketball etc. with a lot of people. ( because i feel its more apart of the college experience)

It has to be in the east side of the country because i do want to get out my state of CT, but i dont want to go soooo far away that if anything happens to me my family is on the other side of the country.

I want it to be academicly up to par with lots of majors to choose from

very diverse ( to meet differnt people)

all in all i just want to experince the college life to the fullest while truly getting a ' higher education' and i just want to be totally happy with where i go.

Medium-to-large universities in the Northeast with prominent football and basketball programs and above-average academics: Penn State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Maryland, UConn, Boston College.

A bit outside the Northeast: Ohio State, Michigan, Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Duke, Kentucky.

Farther away, but still east of the Mississippi River: Clemson, Florida, Florida State, U of Miami, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Purdue, Northwestern, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt.

Is money no object? Going to an out of state public or to a private can be expensive. Do you know how much your parents will pay each year for your eduction?

When you have some test scores and some stats, then you’ll know whether you might get some merit scholarships at a few schools. Many schools do not give merit scholarships, but some do.

I don’t think you should be thinking about this right now. As a junior who started looking at colleges 3 months ago, I’ve realized my tastes have changed ENTIRELY just throughout the past few months. For now work on keeping up your grades and building up your resume with impressive community service and ECs. If you do all of that right, things should fall into place. Relax until end of Soph/ beginning of Junior year.

One reason it might be good to at least start thinking about colleges this early is that if you are ever traveling through an area, you will at least have a clue as to which colleges to stop and visit, even if it’s for a half hour just to get a feel for them. I remember when I was in about 7th grade, my family was driving through South Carolina, and for some reason we decided to take a drive around the Furman campus. I’d never seen anything that beautiful before.

A: Football Saturdays with people tailgating the whole day, and 80,000 people in the stadium and a great environment for basketball. We have ranked teams in both sports and baseball is great too.

A: Diversity is improving at Clemson, we have a lot of minority graduate students and there are growing numbers in the undergraduate area. Geographically, most of the people are from South Carolina because it is a state school but there are people from every 50 states. In fact our recent elected student vice president is from Kodiak, Alaska!
