I am currently a senior in high school and looking into Navy's nuclear program. I've heard that math, physics, or engineering are the preferred majors for getting into the program. Which major, if any, would offer the best preparation? Which engineering program(s) would be better?

I am looking at USNA, Stanford, Cornell, UVA, VT, and Rensselaer. Any other suggestions for schools?

Other schools with good engineering programs: Michigan, Illinois, Purdue.

(In descending order, in my opinion.)

Thanks, but I guess what I'm really trying to ask is (1) what major(s) would give me the best background for the Navy's program, and (2) for that (those) major(s), which schools have the strongest program(s). Would it be better to pursue something more general or to get an undergraduate degree in Nuclear Engineering?

Does anyone have direct experience with going to the Naval Nuclear Power School and serving on submarines?

Not sure if this is what you're looking for but check out the naval architecture and marine engineering program at UMich as well as the the nuclear engineering undergrad department. Both are ranked near the top in the country.
