best school she can get into?

Terrific! Hope it’s affordable!!

Congratulations! How did the financial aid work out for you?

Great news! Congratulations to her!

@toomanykiddos we’re still waiting for the offer. They sent her an email requesting additional paperwork this morning.

Keep us posted! That’s a great offer to have in hand.

Congrats.
Is this a Likely Letter?
Pls let us know how fin aid comes through.

@Itisatruth Thank you. She is so excited. Hopefully, the financial aid works out to where it’s affordable. I’ve heard they’re pretty generous with aid, but also seen some crazy stories.

@lookingforward thank you. What do you mean by likely letter?

Just that I thought notifications were coming out in late March. A LL is a precursor for some kids. It’s good.

@lookingforward Amherst released a wave of acceptances yesterday…they have done this for the last several years, I don’t know more details than that (how many numbers, etc.) Here’s a student newspaper article from a couple years ago that references the practice. https://amherststudent.amherst.edu/article/2016/04/06/admissions-accepts-137-percent-class-2020.html

I am not aware that Amherst makes use of likely letters, but if so, that would be good to know!

@lookingforward we were expecting to hear in March as well. We literally checked Amherst’s website just the day before and it said applicants will be notified by Apr 1. The letter she got said they had over 10,500 applicants and 473 were accepted and that they were notifying some students early of their acceptance.

Interesting.

Wow that’s a 5% acceptance rate for RD. :expressionless:

I’m pretty sure the letter stated Amherst is targeting an incoming class size of 473. Last year, the class was over enrolled and this year the Admissions Office likely will be more conservative managing the incoming class size. With a record 10500 applications, Amherst will probably have the lowest acceptance rate in its history at around 11.2%.

Congratulations!
