Best Schools for ADHD with Engineering focus

My son is pretty bright (scored in the 95th % of his PSAT) but has ADHD so managing homework, schedules, anything due several days out is a Herculean task for him and his grades tend to reflect it (A's or F's). What schools tend to have a good reputation in both Engineering (which he wants to go into) and assistance with ADHD? We live in Indiana, so a midwest location is ideal.

Thank you!

As the mom of a kid with ADHD, I can speak to the college experience to some degree. My kid’s ADHD is only somewhat controlled by medication. She is succeeding at college, but in a major that has nothing like the demands of an engineering track, and she would be doing far better if it were not for her ADHD. No matter how great the disability services are at a college, they won’t be enough to assure that kid with serious ADHD will be a successful college student. They do offer lots of support, but I suspect you offer much support to your son right now, and it hasn’t been enough to guarantee consistent success even in high school. The college disability office isn’t going to make sure he gets to class on time nor remind him that if he attends that party he won’t have time to finish his assignment for the next day. Until he can get a better handle on coping with his ADHD, he won’t be able to manage a highly demanding subject like engineering, which presents challenges of time management and task coordination to even the most neurotypical student. Perhaps your son should consider a different field or a gap year dedicated to exploring medication options, ADHD coaching, or a combination of both, so he is as prepared as possible to deal with college.

Friend’s son with ADHD is doing well in engineering at his state U because, among other things, he is taking 5 years, not 4, to complete his degree. Fewer classes means less organization and less stress. If the ADHD isn’t severe, budgeting an extra year might make sense for your S too.
