Best schools for history and geography?

Im looking for a school that has majors in both geography and history and the programs are of some quality. I would prefer schools outside of IVY league because I cannot get in. Thank you.

There are plenty of outside the ivy schools that are harder to get into than most Ivy league schools, but that's another issue. Berkeley has both geography and history, although particularly from out of state it's hard to get in.

Most schools will have history, perhaps you're focused no a particular specialization of it? US, European, World? Or perhaps you aren't. Keept his in mind.

The geography major will be much more rare and thus, if you really want the major available, an important factor in determining which college to apply to and attend. Some schools won't have the major but will allow you to desing your own major. Keep in mind that this might be difficult at some schools which offer little in the area of geography.

I hope my post was helpful.

Thanks for your help, I really cant get into berk out of state, any of the Ivy's, and the top LAC's but I am shooting for a public school in the range of UMICH, Illinois, Wisconsin... maybe even a little less prestigious. I dont really care about a schools US news ranking as long as it has a good social sciences department overall.

As for the type of History I am aiming more towards American History or more specifically 20th century history. I want to either double major with political science and history or political science and geography.

I know Clark has a geography major that is well thought of:

that actually looks like a school that i could get aid from too, thank you!

Look at Dickinson in PA, Bates & Colby in ME, Hamilton in NY and Trinity in CT. You might also look at Bowdoin, Colgate and Middlebury, but it sounds like they might be a reach for you.

For larger public universities, you should look at Penn State, Delaware, UConn, UVM and Maryland.

For American history, it is hard to beat William and Mary, a Virginia public school.

Wisconsin (Madison) has a traditionally very strong and highly ranked geography department and one of the top history departments in the United States. It sounds like an obvious choice for you if you're interestred in a large state university. Undergraduate offerings in both subjects are abundant and becuase the programs are on such a high level, the discussion groups for any large lectures are likely to be led by first-class TAs (good graduate programs attract bright people who will become desirable professors one day and may even have a flair for teaching if you're lucky). Political science is also a strong at UW-Madison so if you can get in it sounds as though it would be a great fit for you in terms of academic interests. Also a great place to go to school in a social sense of course.

I second UW, you will not find too many schools that are as strong in all three areas and also most enjoyable with a great campus and town.

bump........
