best schools in the midwest/great plains/pastoral areas

i haven't decided what environment i most prefer, but i'm definitely leaning towards campus-centric colleges. i love nature and would love a college that is in a gorgeous natural environment. can anyone give me any recs for the best colleges in these areas? pastoral/great plains/or just generally natural/beautiful environments?

Carleton, maybe Grinnell, comes to mind. Notre Dame, while not really pastoral, has a beautiful campus.
Do you want to stay in the midwest? There are some schools out east that I’d consider to be in really scenic areas - Middlebury in particular

thanks for the suggestions; i’ve been hearing the name ‘carleton’ a lot on threads. i might have to look into that.

no, it doesn’t have to be midwest necessarily. but i’m already applying to several in the east so i was looking for a little variety. but yeah, any suggestions of eastern schools in scenic areas would be great too!

oh yeah i’m already applying to cornell, baby!! another eastern school that’s gorgeous.

more pastoral/great plains would be appreciated though!

Colorado College in Colorado Springs (downtown but at the foot of the Rockies).
Lewis and Clark College in Portland (suburban but beautiful location).

Grinnell definitely. The campus is very attractive-lots of money went into those brand new facilities.

College of Wooster

The University of Wyoming in Laramie, WY is certainly pastoral: [Panoramio - Photo of On the lone prairie](<a href=“Panoramio is no longer available”>Panoramio is no longer available)

Whitman in eastern Washington. Beautiful, rolling hills, wide open spaces, and sunnier/drier weather than in the western part of the state.

^ Washington State in Pullman has a similar location, and everyone I know there loves it.

ohio university is in southern ohio, which has pretty hills. denison is in a small charming ohio town. wells college went co ed recently, and it’s in up state new york. also, any of the schools in amherst mass. will have a good campus feel, since the whole place is a college-centric area. same for ou.

even though its not in the midwest, would uc davis be a school in a pastoral area? cuz i hear there’s a lot of farmland there…?
