I know I'm going to a local community college for 2 years (I have two years paid for). So my question is, what are some good universities to transfer to that I can end up with a BFA or BA?

Thanks!

Btw-This is my first post in a long time! I've missed it!

A lot of schools will accept you but you won't finish in two years. lol. a BFA is hard and a lot of work. you would need at least 3years at Syracuse University to finish with a BFA. They accept transfers alot.

If you're looking for a BA, look at Marymount Manhattan College. I was accepted as a transfer to the Theatre Performance major. When I had my advisement last week, I was told that I had all of my lower core curriculum course requirements completed. So all I'll have to do is my upper ones (and a math course) and the rest is just in my minor and major; I only have 45 credits.

I'm surprised to see that Syracuse is taking transfers. When d auditioned several years ago, we were told they put transfers on the list AFTER they auditioned the incoming class and "if there were any spots left" they would consider transfers. (This was from the director of the program himself.)

I do think the smaller, liberal arts institutions may be more amenable to transfers. D was accepted at a large institution with a BFAMT program, but she had to REALLY work hard to get all her transfer credits evaluated so they would meet the new school's requirements. She also had to take a full load in the summer to graduate "on time."

I think if we had the $, I would have suggested she take the other year (a hated option on her part), but not going through with a regular cohort and joining an established group who've already "bonded" can be a challenge. Not necessarily a problem, but it can be tricky. Also, faculty don't have a good "feel" for you and may not see you as part of the cohort they've already been working with for several years.

Things do work out, however; d is graduating and heading into the "real world" of food service like so many others.....

There are BA Musical Theatre programs. Some with very high quality instruction and enough credits in the BA that you will get the training you need. Don't limit yourself to only BFA programs.

Many BFAs will accept transfers, but the program will still take you four years due to the sequence of classes necessary. You can't take Acting I and II at the same time. That, however, depends on how the classes work together.
