I'm going to be a college freshman in the fall and i'm interested in film.
MICA only has what seems to be a realitively small "video" program, you can't actually major in film specifically. However, RISD does have a film major. I'm also not 100% sure I want to major in film and I know MICA has a more flexible program compared to RISD who you makes you declare your major at the end of your freshamn year. But, if I do decide I want to major in film, there isn't that major availble at MICA. Any advice?

I don't think either school is the best for Film...

When you say 'film', do you mean film & video art installations, or do you mean film as in, full-length movies?

Sorrt to brag for a moment, but two days ago, one of my best friends recently was accepted to the Suny Purchase Film Conservatory, which accepts 20 out of 400 people. I'd look into that. She's into the idea of creating feature films and full length movies for a wide audience.

Some other schools to look into for Film:

SVA (Has an extensive film program)
NYU (Tisch is world famous)
Pratt
SMFA

EDIT:

Sorry, I didn't read well enough and JUST noticed you're going to be a freshman next fall. If you're leaning in the direction of film, then I'd explore RISD a bit more than MICA. Keep in mind, you can always transfer if either program is not giving you enough leeway for what you'd like to do.

Patois is right. Neither RISD nor MICA are know as film schools. Have you applied/been accepted to any other schools? Most film schools do not have a fine arts based foundation year and your credits may not transfer. Look into this a bit more before you decide where to go.

Syracuse University. Hands down one of the top film schools in the country.

if you want to do film @ a top program, there's only 2 places to go: USC or NYU, period.

Haha. I probably sound really stupid but, that's okay. I've actually only applied to RISD, MICA, and SCAD. I know these schools aren't well-known for their film, I was just curious which of those among them had a better film program. At this point I'm mostly undecided as to what i want to major in, but I do know that I want to attend an art college and do something within the arts. I am pretty clueless about film for the most part, I just think it may be really interesting to get into, so attending a college that isn't art specific may be jumping the gun. I will look into these schools if I do decide I want to major in film and possibly transfer. So, i'll just have to see. Thanks.
