I know UCSC is ranked somewhere in the top 40-60 for CS. Although Long Beach isn't ranked highly at all, I've heard really good things about their engineering school (which contains the CS major).

I'm not concerned with rankings or prestige. I care about internship opportunities and job prospects when I graduate. UC's focus on theory, while CSU's provide hands-on experience. Which school would provide better opportunities all around?

I’m at ucsc currently and i’m not exactly sure about our cs major, but I know our video game design major is one of the best in the country. I’m guessing there must be some good cs teachers since video game design is kind of linked with cs. I have no idea on the job outlook of a csu, but many silicon valley tech companies look for UC graduates and most of their employees are ivy league and UC graduates.

Being somewhat local to Silicon Valley companies can help – it is more convenient for both you and the company to bring you in for an interview than if you have to fly there to interview there.
