BFA Acting Class of 2023: preparation, prescreens, auditions, questions and support

@CaMom13, printed the list of schools and may let him go explore! How do the walk in’s work? Does he just approach the room attendant and ask? Do we need plenty of head shots and resumes since they would be schools he has not yet applied to? Thanks in advance!!

Hey @pegski - I am the wrong person to ask since we didn’t do Chicago or walk-ins. But from my reading I have “heard” that walk-in slots are posted - maybe the night before? - by each audition room so your S literally walks the halls to see if there are slots, either at night or in the morning before auditions begin. But I’m sure if you ask someone there will help. Yes, bring a headshot and resume to each audition. There’s probably an audition fee as well so bring a checkbook! BAL to him and go for it!!!

@pegski We didn’t do walk-ins wither but my recollection is that those that offer it have a note that says “walk-ins welcome” or something like that. It also never hurts to just ask. BAL!

At Palmer House now. D got list of schools auditioning here. Apparently it is not complete. My D said there’s at least 2 schools she knows a friend is auditioning for here which are not on the list from the Concierge. Rider and Univ AZ.

@SoCalPops rider is on the list I have but it’s listed as Westminster (rider) college and some schools are here that aren’t technically part of unifieds but still auditioning on the same schedule just at different locations (pace for example)

Thanks @morgan830 I see Rider now. Not seeing U AZ. Will verify if they are here or at another hotel.

@SoCalPops Arizona is 15th floor, room 128 at the Palmer according to their website.

Thanks @type1mom !

Good luck to all this week in Chicago! D is officially done with all of her our auditions as of this weekend! Phew! Now the waiting begins!

Anyone know what room Florida State is in in the Palmer House?

Good luck everyone! Can’t wait to hear about your experiences!

Just a little FYI for anyone interested. At the BU info session McCaela said last year they auditioned around 1200 applicants for the incoming class of 35. They offer admissions to about 70-75 students to get the class yield of 35. At CalArts info session Rachel said they audition 300-400 students for the 40 spots. I don’t know how many they extend admissions to in order to get their yield of 40.

Anyone else get video recorded at their Purchase audition? I’m sure it means nothing, but we can only hope and try to read into it something that really isn’t there. LOL…

@AUDITIONMGR Florida State does not participate in Unified Auditions. On-campus only.

@collegeadmiss did you get videotaped? If so, was it after the monologues and song (asking to do it again) or during the audition? Thanks!

@HPDbfa It was after my S performed the first time. They asked to see his contemporary monologue again.

Hi! @collegeadmiss, Last year S was recorded doing both his pieces and was later accepted via phone call when they went out, so I would say that’s a good sign  Oh how I’ve missed this discussion board keeping me from going crazy during the 2018 audition process haha! Contrary to my name, S attends UNCSA and is in the first year so if you have any questions about the school, I can do my best to answer them ;))

@rutgersmom321 – I will PM you. My D has been accepted to UNCSA but in D&P.

Congrats to your D, @OrangeFish! My D has a friend who went there for tech theatre. She says it’s an amazing program but I also got the impression it was very intense and somewhat competitive/stressful. Very different from what I’ve heard from the actors (who seem to be in artistic heaven) so make sure she connects with someone who is on the tech side.

Thanks, @CaMom13 ! She has several friends in the stage management side there and they say it is quite collaborative. She visited back in November when next to normal was in tech and D was impressed about how well everyone worked together. She’s not in stage management though – she’s in stage properties. She was able to visit and observe the current props students work and she was just over the moon.

No idea about the other sides of tech theatre though.
