My D just got an email that she has a Callback for Rutgers March 2 - 4! She just auditioned for Rutgers two days ago at LA Unifeds. I’m not sure if we can make the trip out to New Brunswick (we’re in Los Angeles.) Does anyone know if she will be eliminated from being accepted if she does not go to the callback?
Also, can anyone share what the callback experience was like? It sounds intense! 9am-10pm on Day 1 and 9am-4pm on Day 2 of Callback monologues and workshops throughout the day.
Congrats @love2share what a fabulous experience! And congrats to @Gapyearguru , the first is so sweet!
I second what @love2share mentioned about order of auditions- I think some do it by application date (suspect Juilliard as we submitted very early and got the first available time). Rutgers was in order if check-in: they had 15 min slots every hour for the appointment time at NYC. CalArts order was by last time. Some schools were exact appointment times.
Speaking of LIU, has anyone auditioned for LIU Brooklyn? They have a new BFA in Theatre and Film, my D got accepted academically but we don’t know much about the program outside the info from her audition.
Congratulations on Rutgers @love2share ! From what I have read in past CC threads, there have been students who got in without attending the callback weekend. BUT, I personally don’t know… I believe from what I read, they invite about double what they intend to finally accept. So it is a callback. They probably looking to see who plays well with others among other things…
@love2share I know of someone who did not attend callback, but was accepted off the WL in the end(a few years back). If it is your D’s first or second choice, it is a tough call. So exciting!
Does anyone know about the Minnesota Guthrie callbacks? How they’ve gone in the past or any info? I know it says they may ask some for additional audition time after they’ve seen them once, but also say that doesn’t mean anything good or bad. Curious if anyone has any thoughts or knowledge about that from years past. Thanks!
@love2share Congrats on your great audition experience and also on Rutgers callback! My son got a callback for Minnesota Guthrie, so hoping some veterans from this board will have information on past years callbacks.
@love2share - Congratulations on the Rutgers callback! That is a big deal. It’s a top program. I concur with others that I think it is about a 2-1 ratio of those Called Back to Accepted. You should search our group from last year for more info on the subject; at least 1 if not 2 active members attended the Rutgers Callback and shared some stuff on line or you can often message people. My two cents: attend callbacks if you can. My D attended U Minn/Guthrie callback (she flew on her own, many do) and 1) you learn a TON about the program you now have decent odds of getting into, meet faculty, existing students, see the campus, all of this will be super valuable if you get accepted and have a choice to make. 2) The callback will teach you stuff outside of Rutgers too! You meet a great subset of your auditioning class. My D stays in touch with kids she met at the Guthrie Callback that ended up at different programs. Attending a callback weekend, you are getting a gut check in every way possible. So many take-aways. Kids are swapping notes like crazy. Yes, I think it is possible to get in without attending. But I believe the odds of getting the initial acceptance are higher if you go, unless you were already TOPS. And then in several cases, you are waitlisted but get the offer as folks decline. It’s a great development though! News is starting! Hang on!
@FourStars Thanks so much! I’m thinking about just having my D go to the callbacks. She’s never traveled by herself before, but she has to start some time! I have to find out the easiest way to travel there, and write detailed notes for my D! She’s excited.
@love2share - Congratulations again! Rutgers has a wonderful program and as I recall last year the folks that got called back LOVED the weekend. I would send her if you can - LAX to EWR is a straight shot on several airlines and she can Uber/Lyft from EWR to campus.
@Gapyearguru - HURRAH!!! Congratulations to your D on her first acceptance! I have only heard nice things here about ShenCo! I am sure you are all just thrilled and I’m thrilled for you.
@CaMom13 Thanks so much! This is the third year in a row of auditions for us (my oldest took a gap year), and we have never had an acceptance this early in the process. It definitely takes the pressure off my youngest!
